Am I the only one who never looks at Nissan and thinks “yep, will never buy one over any other manufacturers out of Asia.” The Altima bores me, the maxima looks odd, their crossovers/suv’s I’m indifferent one, the Titan seems to be second fiddle to a Tundra, the frontier is ancient and the 370Z seems older than me.

Outside of literally burning every model to the ground and starting fresh, how do you make Nissan great again? # MNGA

You forgot the Armada. Which I’m pretty sure is still a thing because I saw what looked to be a new one yesterday.

But yeah. Burn  them  all to the ground. Starting with the Z and the frontier.

They have such a meh lineup it’s a perfect metaphor for mediocrity defined by FWD CVT middle of road beigemobiles. But you know, as long as they keep selling shitloads of these beigemobiles below they wont care or do anything about the rest of the lineup

I rather walk than get into one their cars, even as a rental. From an enthusiast standpoint, they’re still milking the decade-old GT-R and the even more ancient 370z but I guess I will give them credit for the new Leaf which seems to be a competitive product.

I think b eing a Nissan fanboy in 2019 might be one of the most unrequited and   depressing things ever.

I worked at Enterprise during college and as you know, Nissan put a ton of cars into fleet rentals. So, yeah, I’ve grown to really dislike the brand.

Some of the cars would have such bad quality, I would call them the GM of Japan lol.

It’s sad because I thought Nissan was quite cool in the early 00's with vehicles like the 350z, 6-speed Altima.

Kill the CVT entirely and get a good 8 speed auto - hell, just buy it from ZF and call it a day.

Make the Frontier a rebirth of the hardbody in looks, and make it tough. Build an Xterra off of that, with a manual option.

Redo the Z, making it a lighter competitor to the Pony cars, with great handling and V6 power. Twin turbo optional - and that can probably eliminate the GTR ( sorry).

Make the Pathfinder off of the Frontier, with the 8speed auto. Do this right and you can probably kill the Armada.

The Altima and Maxima overlap too much IMHO- give the Maxima a manual and make it the best handling FWD sedan out there.

And at the lower end, it seems to me that   there’s 1 too many models - I’d probably just kill the Versa, it drags the brand down.

TL ;DR just take Nissan back to 1990s glory.

And watch out for the ubiquitous white Altima. Those are always driven by the most clueless people. My guess is those cars are the absolute cheapest and get folks with lower incomes too.

And I forgot all of their crappy crossovers but they need those for volume. Just put a real transmission in them, and consider axing the Murano ( too narrow of a market between the Rogue and Pathfinder imho)

Yep. I don’t think there’s anything in their lineup that I want. I’ve felt that way about them for a while.

I   have a seven-year-old Nissan Cube but I bought it mainly because it was cheap. And it’s a decent enough car, sure, but holy crap does it feel cheap . The doors feel like they’ll dent if you look at them sternly. This S model has no outside temperature display even though the Versa it shares a platform and parts bin with had it. It has one power outlet. It doesn’t have rear speakers! Hell, this thing doesn’t even have a light in the cargo area. It feels like it was built to a price because it was . It does have character and even feels spunky at low speeds, so all in all it balances out to satisfactory . But I won’t lie, I go for a drive in it and I think I could have had something better.

T heir entire current lineup is just kind of there with nothing to really draw you in.

The Murano used to make more sense when the Rogue was smaller, but these days it has become a really large vehicle.

The CVT in the Maxima is brilliant. I had a Maxima for several months as a rental. Their CVT is so much better than the one in our Outback. The rest of the car was nice, but it should be because it was a top of the line model. The looks leave something to be desired, but the engine is a strong as a base model Challenger. I might be talked into getting one if the price was right and it weren’t front wheel drive.

I was thinking about that, but base Altimas have a $28,000 MSRP in Canada. Fuck that shit.

Considering that the other Japanese brands have an enthusiast car (Toyota = 86; Honda = Civic Type-R, Si, Accord Sport) and that even Korean brands are going into this market (warm hatches like the Forte5 SX, full hot hatches like the Veloster or i30 N, and the Stinger), Nissan could inject a bit of life into the line-up by bringing back the SE-R and Spec-V trims with better engines (or tuning) and a gearbox with gears. At the very least, some cars that are slightly exciting to drive would hold them over until they can do a full redesign of their lineup and make cars that are at least somewhat interesting to look at.

People gave shit to Acura/Honda/Toyota/Lexus for their polarizing designs but god damn at least they made you feel something, even if it was sick. The only thing Nissan has achieved is that you can identify that it’s a car on the road.

I soured a bit on the SE-R front when they did a $6k SE-R package on the Altima that gave a 6hp bump, some painted lights and wheels, and some stitching on the interior.

Maybe in sport mode? I had one as a rental once and absolutely hated it - it’s better than Subaru, but that’s a low bar IMHO . The only tolerable CVT that I’ve driven is Hondas. And that one is just tolerable.

Yeah that’s a pretty big fuck-up, I’d expect SE-R to be on par with Honda’s Si models and then the Spec-V to be on par with Type-R.

Nissan played it safe-and now they are boring. There are a million rogues driving around, with bored people owning them.

Bring the Navara and Patrol over, bring back a real Pathfinder and a new Xterra. Cut down the crossovers. Make some  interesting cars.

They won’t..

They did a great job with the refresh, considering beforehand I never gave it a second look. Too bad they cant put the leaf nismo rc into production, being a custom chassis underneath, but since it uses standard Leaf motors it should be hecking reliable at least.

Could be - I have more experience in the Altima than the Maxima, but they all felt the same to me - including the 1 Ma xima.
